What’s the point of paying for cable or satellite tv?

Okay lest I sound like a nut case. But seriously, most cable packages cost between $40-50 per month and with 500 channels, I still find it amazing that there is so much junk.

I wish we could order our own channels too. If you pay money for cable/satellite then why should you also sit through ads? Seeing how society is already inundated with marketing and product placements its like enough is enough.

I have no choice but to pay for satellite TV. I live so far out in the sticks, and in hilly country, that an antenna picks up nothing and cable isn’t available.

the idea of "pay per channel" is not new. but the cost of it turned out way worse. Understand that 30-50 channels can be owned by the same guy, so he sells them in blocks. Most adds pay the shows, not the stations. Your money pays the provider, and has nothing to do with the shows or the channels.

You don’t get the ads on the paid channels, i watch HBO, Stars, now i cant remember the others LOL i get them all and i get no adverts on them. Without the ads on the other channels we wouldn’t be able to afford to watch TV, just think of the amount the ads cost…who would pay them if the ads were not there? US

You need tivo with on demand HD on a huge plasma screen
Now thats TV ulimate without the commercial crud and
with on demand thru comcast you can plan you tivo recalled viewing without having to work a bunch of equipment and all the satellite
stuff to bring in a bunch of content most people find
is worthless mindless junk repeats that way you get true content you want without all the commercial content and tivo can eliminate the commercials from your programmed viewing. with on demand you watch only what you bring on demand and in conjunction with Tivo
or the recorder from any room function comcast takes viewing from
snoreing to exploring with interest and demand versatility.
try it youll love the increased HD and plasma content adds to the
experience cause the real life colors come into the viewing
and the plasma in Hh def is the bomb in mega pixels the true
life like colors. Liqud Crystals sets have better true black for
close up viewing but plasma is for large theater viewing if your
LCD

equipment failure.

Live in the UK. Pay the TV licence (about £120 a year) and get 4 BBC channels with no ads. We do have commercial channels of course and we still have to pay the fee. We also have a freesat system which has all normal UK stations on it.
